Air Force 1 LXX

The Nike Air Force 1 LXX has been made with precise stitching, giving this women’s model a well-crafted look. This is evident in the upper, which, on versions like the Sea Glass, features an unconventional swoosh that has been split in two horizontally on the section that lies across the midfoot. Its tail sits on top of the rear panel before wrapping underneath it at the seam beside the midfoot. This part of the swoosh is not connected to the upper across the middle, making it more of a strap than an overlay. Where its end goes under the heel panel, the tight stitching along the panel’s edge becomes longer, looser and indented.

Either side of the sunken midfoot section, the stitches of the front and backfoot overlays only go partway up the sides of the AF1 LXX. This makes room for the front half of the swoosh to pass beneath the quarter segment, while a short bar of stitching attaches the material, whether it be leather or suede, back to the shoe at the top. The front of the swoosh is split in two horizontally, with the lower part sewn down underneath and the tip held in place by one single thread. Normally, the two parts that make up the front half of the swoosh come in different colors, for example on the Glacier Blue, where the top part of the Nike logo is white and the overlaid bottom piece is a pleasant sky blue tone. They are often made of varying materials as well, with versions like the Malt featuring a shaggy suede alongside leather, and the Vandalized displaying nubuck on the top and synthetic leather below. To finish off the elaborate stitching, dynamic zigzag lines run down the heel strip and along the bottom of the eyestay below the lace dubrae.

Distinctive branding also graces the Air Force 1 LXX, with the heel panel carrying a simple “Nike” in bold capital letters. On each foot, the two lateral letters are completely debossed, whereas the medial ones only have debossed outlines, producing an interesting mirrored effect. This reflective styling also occurs through the perforations, which only cover the lateral half of each toe box, leaving the medial side smooth.

Meanwhile, the insole swooshes are split like those of the outer and have been printed facing in opposite directions. The lace dubraes have indented AF1 text within a rectangular border and come in a range of tones, from off-white on the Pink Foam colorway to black on the Light Orewood Brown. The patches on the thin tongue of the LXX have been switched so that the inner one has Nike Air Force 1 lettering, and the outer one displays information on the model beside a QR code.

In addition to these offbeat versions, there have also been a select few LXX sneakers that, while maintaining the Low collar, have a more conventional appearance through the use of traditional swooshes, a toe box which has the recognisable fan of perforations and regular branding embossed into the tongue and heel. These include the Vachetta Tan, with its golden lace dubraes and waxy insole text, the Toasty, with its unique quilted upper panels, and the University Blue, which has classy suede swooshes on its flanks. Those in the Floral Pack also follow this style, though each shoe in the set is decorated in a compelling flowery graphic. The Swarovski collaboration, which like other LXX designs was created specifically for women, mixes things up again via eccentric TPU plates that have been studded with retroreflective crystals for a distinctive look. The Serena Williams Design Crew has also produced a model with the LXX name. It has an alternative construction that incorporates an upper with a leather covering joined in the middle by a golden zip instead of laces. No matter the intricacies of the design, these sneakers all have an edgy appearance that suits the artful theme of the Nike Air Force 1 LXX perfectly.
