Nike LDV Waffle x Fragment Design x sacai
"Light Smoke Grey"
DH2684-001
Nike teamed up with the incredible creative talents of Hiroshi Fujiwara and Chitose Abe to craft this captivating Nike LDV Waffle x Fragment Design x sacai sneaker. As a waffle shoe, it features an outsole based on Bill Bowerman’s classic design, with square-shaped pods providing traction from heel to toe and the center displaying the U.S. Patent details of the 1970s original, for a nifty throwback effect. From here, the sneaker’s dualistic nature begins to manifest as its midsole comes in two stacked layers. The lower one has a slight gray tone to it, while the one above it, which sticks out like a wedge from the heel, is white with black text printed onto its lateral side that reads “The Classic / Fragment : sacai”.
Placed upon these two plates of comfortable foam cushioning is a Light Smoke Grey upper consisting of a breathable mesh underlayer and plush suede overlays. These last features have been doubled-up to form pairs on the forefoot, heel and eyestay. Two tongues add further depth to the design, the primary one made from a white mesh, the secondary one smooth and white with a gray rim. Each has a white label sewn into its peak, the top one displaying a retro Nike Sportswear logo with a colorful orange swoosh, the bottom one Fragment Design’s lively lightning bolt emblem.
The inner has been decorated with more pleasant hues as Light Smoke Grey coats the walls, and a slightly darker shade covers the insole. Here, a special Nike sacai logo has been printed in white, the names of the two brands intermingling with one another in a mesmerizing effect. Back on the outer, the white leather heel panel is adorned with the same logo, this time in black so that it stands out against its light background. Capping off this collaborative design are the dual swooshes on each flank. Made of white leather, they lie side-by-side as they reach along the sidewall, before landing one over the other on the midfoot to complete the sneaker’s fascinating composite construction.
