ACG Gaiadome
In the early 2020s, Nike ACG used its rich back catalog as inspiration for a range of contemporary silhouettes, leading to the creation of a robust, supportive hiking boot called the ACG Gaiadome.
The upper of the Nike ACG Gaiadome deploys tough, abrasion-resistant materials and waterproof GORE-TEX fabrics to keep the feet warm and dry. A seamless mudguard wraps the front part of the shoe, while a sturdy TPU support known as the TrailFrame appears at the bottom of the heel, where it offers stability for traversing challenging outdoor terrain. Further up the heel, large crash pads bulge out around the high-top collar, protecting the ankle and providing softening comfort. Metal, boot-style eyelets and secure lace hooks bring firm lockdown all the way up to the top of the well-padded tongue, and a pair of pull tabs aid entry.
A substantial midsole supports the ACG Gaiadome with thick foam cushioning and a shock-absorbing heel Zoom Air unit for maximum comfort and energy return. In addition, it shields the wearer from the hard impacts of rocks and roots, while the TrailFrame bolsters protection and enhances stability as it extends beneath the foot. The Gaiadome also boasts a durable rubber outsole with powerful three-pronged lugs which are designed specifically for taking on mountainous landscapes but work just as effectively on countryside ramblings and city walks.
The Nike ACG Gaiadome is covered in stylish branding, with ACG logos on the tongue, toe, ankle, outsole and heel. A small Swoosh punctuates the lateral midfoot, while technologies such as the GORE-TEX membrane and Air Zoom cushioning are highlighted by text on the forefoot and midsole. One of Nike ACG’s famous mottos, “Designed, Tested and Made on Planet Earth”, has been etched into the lateral midsole, and the words “For Outdoor Use” embossed beside a mini-Swoosh on the medial side before a GORE-TEX tab emerging from the back of the TrailFrame completes the branding. All of this adds to the striking effect of the Gaiadome’s imposing look.
Ahead of its autumn 2022 general release, the ACG Gaiadome was first put to use at the Winter Olympics and Paralympics in Beijing. Presented in an eye-catching white colorway, this FlyEase version was crafted specifically for the games, with accessible features like zippers and toggle-fastened laces allowing it to be used by all athletes. As part of a wider series of Olympic apparel provided to the American team, it was designed using feedback and insights from disabled athletes, such as multi-sport paralympian Oksana Masters. The silhouette was showcased by sportspeople across both games, most notably being worn by snowboarding superstar Chloe Kim as she accepted her gold medal for the women’s halfpipe.
With its rugged build and winterized features, the Nike ACG Gaiadome envelops the feet in a warm, cozy and protective embrace, offering reliable comfort and support across extreme and unforgiving environments.
